Tere Rivera

Tere is a Registered Dietitian who finished her Masters in Science (Nutrition) with distinction at the University of the Incarnate Word where she received the Excellence in Nutrition Mission Innovation Award in 2010 for the project: Nutrition education curriculum with a DBT format for adolescents with eating disorders. She joined ERC in 2007. Tere has been intensively trained in DBT and is a Fellow of the Academy For Eating Disorders, was a member of the scientific committee for the International Conference of Eating Disorders in 2006 and 2007, and co-chair of the scientific program of the International Conference on Eating Disorders at Seattle in 2008. She is a Certified Eating Disorder RD and an Approved supervisor through the IAEDP. She has published scientific papers related to the role of nutrition therapy in the treatment of eating disorders and the risk of osteoporosis in Anorexia Nervosa and has presented in numerous national and international conferences on Eating Disorders. With the most recent ones at the iaedp conference  Las Vegas 2017,  ICED Chicago 2018, AED HLA Chapter Bogota 2019 and iaedp Chapter 2019.

Presentation Culturally Competent Nutrition Intervention in the Latino Population

This presentation will pass the nutrition intervention through the lens of the Latino culture and will identify cultural values that may serve as protective factors and facilitators for effective intervention. This presentation will also identify features related to the Latino culture, acculturation, and immigration process that increases the risk for eating disorders in this population. The speaker will also present experiences from the Latino population.
